حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ ثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ثَنَا الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ قَالَ
لَمَّا حَضَرَتْ مَخْرَمَةَ بْنَ نَوْفَلٍ الْوَفَاةُ بَكَتْهُ ابْنَتُهُ فَقَالَتْ وَاأَبَتَاهُ كَانَ هَيِّنًا لَيِّنًا فَأَفَاقَ فَقَالَ «مَنِ النَّادِبَةُ؟» فَقَالُوا ابْنَتُكَ فَقَالَ «تَعَالَيْ» فَجَاءَتْ فَقَالَ لَيْسَ هَكَذَا يُنْدَبُ مِثْلِي قُولِي وَاأَبَتَاهُ كَانَ سَهْمًا مُصِيبًا كَانَ أَبًا حَصِينًا
Translation

✧ When death came to Makhrama b. Nawfal, his daughter wept for him and said, "O father, he was gentle and soft." He regained consciousness and said, "Who is the mourner?" They said, "Your daughter." He said, "Come here." She came, and he said, "One like me is not mourned like that. Say: O father, he was an arrow that hit the mark; he was a fortified father."
