حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْجَهْمِ ثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ
وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ لَمْ يَزَلْ عَلَى دِينِ قَوْمِهِ فِي الشِّرْكِ حَتَّى شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَدَعَا إِلَى الْبِرَازِ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ أَبُوهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لِيُبَارِزَهُ فَذَكَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ «مَتِّعْنَا بِنَفْسِكَ»

✧ Abdur-Rahman b. Abi Bakr al-Siddiq remained upon the religion of his people in idolatry until he witnessed Badr with the polytheists. He called for single combat, and his father Abu Bakr rose to duel him, but it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Abu Bakr: “Spare us yourself.”
