أَخْبَرَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الثَّقَفِيُّ أَنَا الْمَعْمَرِيُّ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا بَكْرِ بْنَ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ يَقُولُ «كَانَ اسْمُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَبْدَ الْعُزَّى فَسَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ وَيُكَنَّى أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَكَانَ شَهِدَ فَتْحَ دِمَشْقَ فَنَفَّلَهُ عُمَرُ لَيْلَى بِنْتَ الْجُودِيِّ حِينَ فَتَحَ دِمَشْقَ وَكَانَ لَهَا عَاشِقًا»
Translation

- Aḥmad b. Yaʿqūb al-Thaqafī Anā al-Maʿmarī
✧ I heard Abu Bakr b. Abi Shaybah say: The name of Abdur-Rahman b. Abi Bakr was Abd al-Uzza, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named him Abdur-Rahman. He was given the kunya Abu Muhammad. He witnessed the conquest of Damascus, and Umar gave him Layla bt. al-Judi as spoils when Damascus was conquered, for he was in love with her.
