فَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْحَافِظُ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَيْرُوتِيُّ ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْجَوْزَجَانِيُّ قَالَ مَاتَ زِيَادُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ أَخُو فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ بِالْكُوفَةِ وَدُفِنَ بِالثَّوَى وَكَانَ يُكَنَّى أَبَا الْمُغِيرَةِ فَرَثَاهُ حَارِثَةُ بْنُ بَدْرٍ فَقَالَ
« [البحر البسيط] صَلَّى الْإِلَهُ عَلَى قَبْرٍ وَطَهَّرَهُ عِنْدَ الثَّوِيَّةِ يُسْقَى فَوْقَهُ الْمَوْرُ زَفَّتْ إِلَيْهِ قُرَيْشٌ نَعْشَ سَيِّدِهَا فَالْجُودُ وَالْحَزْمُ فِيهِ الْيَوْمَ مَقْبُورُ أَبَا الْمُغِيرَةِ وَالدُّنْيَا مُفَجَّعَةٌ وَإِنَّ مِنْ غُرَّةِ الدُّنْيَا الْمَغْرُورُ قَدْ كَانَ عِنْدَكَ لِلْمَعْرُوفِ مَعْرِفَةٌ وَكَانَ عِنْدَكَ لِلْنَكْرَاءِ تَنْكِيرُ وَكُنْتَ تَغْشَى وَتُعْطِي الْمَالَ مِنْ سَعَةٍ إِنْ كَانَ بَابُكَ أَضْحَى وَهْوَ مَحْجُورُ وَالنَّاسُ بَعْدَكَ قَدْ خَفَّتْ حُلُومُهُمْ كَأَنَّهَا نُسِجَتْ فِيهَا الْعَصَافِيرُ»
Translation

✧ [meter: al-bahr al-basit] May God bless a grave and purify it, near al-Thawiyya, watered above it by al-mawr. Quraysh escorted to it the bier of its master, for generosity and prudence are buried in it today. O Abu al-Mughira, the world is stricken with grief, and among the deceived by the world's splendor is the deceived one. You had knowledge of what is good, and you had rejection of what is evil. You used to visit and give wealth out of abundance, even if your door became blocked and inaccessible. After you, people's minds have become light, as if sparrows were woven into them.
