حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ غَالِبٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ خَيْرَانَ ثنا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ غَالِبٍ ثنا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الرَّقَّامُ ثنا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ حُضَيْنِ بْنِ الْمُنْذِرِ عَنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ بْنِ قُنْفُذٍ
أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ اعْتَذَرَ إِلَيْهِ وَقَالَ إِنِّي كَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ إِلَّا عَلَى طُهْرٍ أَوْ قَالَ عَلَى طَهَارَةٍ «»

✧ He came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was urinating and greeted him, but he did not return the greeting until he had performed ablution. Then he apologized to him and said: I disliked mentioning Allah except in a state of purity, or he said: upon purification.

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ إِنَّمَا أَخْرَجَ مُسْلِمٌ حَدِيثَ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مَرَّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ اعْتَذَرَ إِلَيْهِ وَقَالَ إِنِّي كَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ إِلَّا عَلَى طُهْرٍ أَوْ قَالَ عَلَى طَهَارَةٍ «» هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ على شرطهما

Qatādah narrated it from al-Ḥasan, from Ḥuḍayn b. al-Mundhir Abū Sāsān, from al-Muhājir; Saʿīd and Hishām narrated it thus. Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl, Yūnus b. ʿUbayd, ʿAbdullāh b. al-Mukhtār, Ashʿath b. ʿAbd al-Malik, Jarīr b. Ḥāzim, Abū Sahl Kathīr b. Ziyād and al-Ḥasan b. Wāṣil, who is al-Ḥasan b. Dīnār, differed from him, and narrated it from al-Ḥasan from al-Muhājir, without mentioning anyone between them. ʿAbbād b. Maysarah narrated it from al-Ḥasan, who said: A man from Quraysh, whom he did not name, told me that he saw the Prophet ﷺ; he said: he greeted him with salām, and he did not return it until he had touched water. Abū al-Ashʿath narrated it from al-Ḥasan as a mursal report from the Prophet ﷺ. The hadith of Qatādah is the soundest of them.
