حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَاشِمِيُّ بِالْكُوفَةِ ثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ الْحِيرِيُّ ثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الطَّائِفِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَوْنٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ

لَمَّا تُوُفِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَعَثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ إِلَى أَهْلِ الْبُحَيْرَةِ ثُمَّ شَهِدْتُ الْيَمَامَةَ ثُمَّ شَهِدْتُ فُتُوحَ الشَّامِ مَعَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ثُمَّ شَهِدْتُ الْيَرْمُوكَ فَأُصِيبَتْ عَيْنِي يَوْمَ الْيَرْمُوكِ ثُمَّ شَهِدْتُ الْقَادِسِيَّةَ وَكُنْتُ رَسُولَ سَعْدٍ إِلَى رُسْتُمَ وَوُلِّيتُ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فُتُوحًا وَفَتَحْتُ هَمَذَانَ وَكُنْتُ عَلَى مَيْسَرَةِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ مُقَرِّنٍ يَوْمَ نَهَاوَنْدَ وَكَانَ عُمَرُ قَدْ كَتَبَ إِنْ هَلَكَ النُّعْمَانُ فَالْأَمِيرُ حُذَيْفَةُ وَإِنْ هَلَكَ حُذَيْفَةُ فَالْأَمِيرُ الْمُغِيرَةُ وَكُنْتُ أَوَّلَ مَنْ وَضَعَ دِيوَانَ الْبَصْرَةِ وَجَمَعْتُ النَّاسَ لِيُعْطَوْا وَوُلِّيتُ الْكُوفَةَ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ وَقُتِلَ عُمَرُ وَأَنَا عَلَيْهَا ثُمَّ وُلِّيتُهَا لِمُعَاوِيَةَ سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq sent me to the people of al-Buhayra. Then I witnessed al-Yamama, then I witnessed the conquests of Syria with the Muslims, then I witnessed al-Yarmuk, and my eye was injured on the day of al-Yarmuk. Then I witnessed al-Qadisiyya, and I was Sa'd's envoy to Rustam. I was appointed by Umar b. al-Khattab to some conquests, and I conquered Hamadhan. I was on the left wing of al-Numan b. Muqarrin on the day of Nahawand. Umar had written: If al-Numan is killed, the commander is Hudhayfa; if Hudhayfa is killed, the commander is al-Mughira. I was the first to establish the diwan of Basra, and I gathered the people to be given stipends. I governed Kufa for Umar b. al-Khattab, and Umar was killed while I was its governor. Then I governed it for Muawiya. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
