✧ My father Zayd ibn Thabit died before the sun turned yellow, and it was my opinion to bury him before morning. The Ansar came and said, 'He will not be buried except in daylight so that people may gather for him.' Marwan heard the voices and came walking until he entered upon me and said, 'It is my firm resolve that he will not be buried until morning.' When morning came, we washed him three times: the first with water, the second with water and lote leaves, and the third with water and camphor. We shrouded him in three garments, one of which was a cloak that Mu'awiyah had given him. We prayed over him after sunrise, and Marwan ibn al-Hakam prayed over him. Marwan sent a camel to be slaughtered, and it was slaughtered and the people were fed. The women wept for three days.
