حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ ثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ ثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ شُجَاعٍ السَّكُونِيُّ ثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ ثَنَا جَعْفَرٌ عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ زُفَرَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ

كُنْتُ رَسُولَ مُعَاوِيَةَ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ فِي وَقْعَةِ صِفِّينَ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ «مَنْ قُتِلَ مِنَ النَّاسِ؟» فَقُلْتُ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ «ذَاكَ الرَّأْسُ يَتْبَعُهُ النَّاسُ لِدِينِهِ» قَالَتْ وَمَنْ؟ قُلْتُ هَاشِمُ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ الْأَعْوَرُ قَالَتْ «ذَاكَ رَجُلٌ مَا كَادَتْ أَنْ تَزَلَّ دَابَّتُهُ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

✧ I was Mu'awiya's envoy to 'A'isha during the Battle of Siffin. 'A'isha said: "Who among the people was killed?" I said: "'Ammar b. Yasir." 'A'isha said: "That is the leader whom people followed for his religion." She said: "And who else?" I said: "Hashim b. 'Utba b. Abi Waqqas, the one-eyed." She said: "That is a man whose mount almost never stumbled." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
