حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بَطَّةَ ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ رُسْتَةَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْمُقْرِئُ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ
وَأَمَّا «هَاشِمُ الْأَعْوَرُ فَإِنَّهُ ابْنُ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ أَسْلَمَ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ وَكَانَ أَعْوَرَ فُقِئَتْ عَيْنُهُ يَوْمَ الْيَرْمُوكِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَخِي سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ شَهِدَ صِفِّينَ مَعَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَكَانَ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَى الرَّجَّالَةِ»

✧ As for "Hashim the one-eyed," he is the son of 'Utba b. Abi Waqqas. He embraced Islam on the day of the conquest of Makkah. He was one-eyed; his eye was gouged out on the day of al-Yarmuk. He is the nephew of Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas. He witnessed Siffin with 'Ali b. Abi Talib, and on that day he was in command of the infantry.
