حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَكِيمِيُّ بِبَغْدَادَ ثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدُّورِيُّ ثَنَا طَلْقُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ النَّخَعِيُّ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ خَبَّابِ بْنِ الْأَرَتِّ قَالَ
كَانَ النَّاسُ يَدْفِنُونَ مَوْتَاهُمْ بِالْكُوفَةِ حَتَّى جَاءَ خَبَّابٌ لَهُمْ فَلَمَّا ثَقُلَ قَالَ لِي يَا بُنَيَّ ادْفِنِّي بِالظُّهْرِ فَإِنَّكَ لَوْ دَفَنْتَنِي بِالظُّهْرِ قِيلَ دُفِنَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا مَاتَ خَبَّابٌ دُفِنَ بِالظُّهْرِ فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَدْفُونٍ دُفِنَ بِالظُّهْرِ فَدَفَنَ النَّاسُ مَوْتَاهُمْ بِالظُّهْرِ

✧ The people used to bury their dead in al-Kufah until Khabbab came to them. When he became gravely ill, he said to me: 'O my son, bury me in al-Zuhr, for if you bury me in al-Zuhr, it will be said: a man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has been buried.' When Khabbab died, he was buried in al-Zuhr, and he was the first to be buried in al-Zuhr, so the people then buried their dead in al-Zuhr.
