✧ Virtues of Hudhayfah b. al-Yaman: "Indeed, he is Hudhayfah b. Huseil, and Hudhayfah is the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

أَخْبَرَنِي مَخْلَدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْبَاقَرْحِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ
هَذَا الْقَوْلَ خَطَأٌ وَأَظُنُّ لِصَاحِبِهِ إِمَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ لَمْ يَعْرِفِ الْوَقْتَ الَّذِي قُتِلَ فِيهِ عُثْمَانُ وَإِمَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ لَمْ يُحْسِنْ أَنْ يَحْسِبَ وَذَلِكَ أَنَّهُ لَا خِلَافَ بَيْنَ أَهْلِ السِّيَرِ كُلِّهِمْ أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ قُتِلَ فِي ذِي الْحِجَّةِ مِنْ سَنَةِ خَمْسٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ مِنَ الْهِجْرَةِ وَقَالَتْ جَمَاعَةٌ مِنْهُمْ قُتِلَ لِاثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً بَقِيَتْ مِنْهُ فَإِذَا كَانَ مَقْتَلُ عُثْمَانَ فِي ذِي الْحِجَّةِ وَعَاشَ حُذَيْفَةُ بَعْدَهُ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً فَذَلِكَ فِي السَّنَةِ الَّتِي بَعْدَهَا

✧ This statement is an error, and I think its author either did not know the time when Uthman was killed or did not know how to calculate. There is no disagreement among all the biographers that Uthman was killed in Dhu al-Hijjah of the year thirty-five of the Hijrah, and a group of them said he was killed when twelve nights remained of it. Since the killing of Uthman was in Dhu al-Hijjah and Hudhayfah lived after him forty nights, that would be in the following year.
