أَخْبَرَنِي الشَّيْخُ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ شَرِيكٍ ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ ثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ عَنْ حَرِيزِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَيْسَرَةَ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو رَاشِدٍ الْحُبُرَانِيُّ قَالَ

رَأَيْتُ الْمِقْدَادَ بْنَ الْأَسْوَدِ حَارِسَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَالِسًا عَلَى تَابُوتٍ مِنْ تَوَابِيتِ الصَّيَارِفَةِ بِحِمْصَ قَدْ أَفْضَلَ عَلَى التَّابُوتِ مِنْ عِظَمِهِ يُرِيدُ الْغَزْوَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ لَقَدْ أَعْذَرَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ فَقَالَ أَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا سُورَةُ الْبُعُوثِ {انْفِرُوا خِفَافًا وَثِقَالًا} [التوبة 41] قَالَ بَقِيَّةُ «سُورَةُ الْبُعُوثِ سُورَةُ التَّوْبَةِ»

✧ I saw al-Miqdad b. al-Aswad, the guard of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, sitting on a chest of the money-changers' chests in Hims, his bulk overflowing the chest because of his size, intending to go on a military expedition. I said to him: Allah has excused you. He said: The Sura of Mobilization has compelled us: {Go forth, light or heavy} [al-Tawba 41]. Baqiyya said: The Sura of Mobilization is Surat al-Tawba.
