أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْمَحْبُوبِيُّ بِمَرْوَ ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى أَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ مُخَارِقٍ عَنْ طَارِقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ شَهِدْتُ مِنَ الْمِقْدَادِ مَشْهَدًا
لِأَنْ أَكُونَ صَاحِبَهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا عُدِلَ بِهِ أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَدْعُو عَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَقَالَ إِنَّا وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَا نَقُولُ كَمَا قَالَ قَوْمُ مُوسَى لِمُوسَى {اذْهَبْ أَنْتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلَا إِنَّا هَاهُنَا قَاعِدُونَ} وَلَكِنَّا نُقَاتِلُ عَنْ يَمِينِكَ وَعَنْ شِمَالِكَ وَمِنْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ وَمِنْ خَلْفِكَ «فَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُشْرِقُ لِذَلِكَ وَسَرَّهُ ذَلِكَ»

✧ That I be his companion is dearer to me than anything equivalent to it. He came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was supplicating against the polytheists and said: By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we will not say as the people of Musa said to Musa: {Go, you and your Lord, and fight; we are sitting here} [al-Ma'ida 24]. Rather, we will fight on your right, on your left, in front of you, and behind you. I saw the Prophet ﷺ's face light up for that, and it pleased him.
