✧ "We entered upon Ali, me and two other men, one of whom was from our tribe and the other from the tribe of Banu Asad. Ali said to them, 'So they sent them for a need, and he said, "Indeed, you two are sick, so treat yourselves according to your religion."' Then he entered the restroom and came out. He called for water and washed his hands, then he began to recite the Quran. It seemed as if we disapproved, so he said, 'It seems that you two disapproved. The Messenger of Allah used to fulfill his needs, recite the Qur'an, and eat meat without anything preventing him from recitation except impurity (janabah).'"

إنما يتوقف الشافعي في ثبوته لأن مداره على ابن سلمة وكان قد كبر وأنكر من حديثه وعقله بعض النكرة وإنما روى هذا الحديث بعدما كبر
machine translationAl-Shāfiʿī only withheld judgement on its authenticity because its transmission revolves around Ibn Salimah, who had grown old, and some of his narrations were rejected and his mind was somewhat impaired. He only narrated this ḥadīth after he had grown old.
