أَخْبَرَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الثَّقَفِيُّ ثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا
ثَنَا خَلِيفَةُ بْنُ خَيَّاطٍ فَذَكَرَ هَذَا النَّسَبَ وَزَادَ «وَكَانَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يُكَنَّى أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَكَانَ اسْمُهُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ عَبْدَ الْكَعْبَةِ فَسَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ» على شرط البخاري ومسلم
Translation
Chain of narrators
- Aḥmad b. Yaʿqūb al-Thaqafī
- Mūsá b. Zakariyyā
✧ Khalifa b. Khayyat narrated to us and mentioned this lineage, adding: "Abd al-Rahman's kunya was Abu Muhammad, and his name in the Jahiliyya was Abd al-Ka'ba, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named him Abd al-Rahman." [It is] according to the conditions of al-Bukhari and Muslim.
