✧ I witnessed Madinah. When the prayer was established, I advanced and stood in the first row. Then Umar b. al-Khattab came out and split the rows, then advanced, and with him came a dark-skinned man with a light beard. He looked at the faces of the people, and when he saw me, he pushed me and stood in my place. That distressed me greatly. When he finished, he turned to me and said: Do not let it grieve you or sadden you. Would it be hard for you that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "None stands in the first row except the Muhajirun and the Ansar"? So I said: Who is this? They said: Ubay b. Ka'b.
