حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْجَهْمِ ثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ
«حَاطِبُ بْنُ أَبِي بَلْتَعَةَ يُكَنَّى أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَهُوَ فِيمَا قِيلَ مِنْ لَخْمٍ ثُمَّ أَحَدُ بَنِي رَاشِدَةَ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا وَالْخَنْدَقَ وَالْمَشَاهِدَ كُلَّهَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَعَثَهُ إِلَى الْمُقَوْقَسِ صَاحِبِ الْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةِ وَكَانَ فِيمَا ذُكِرَ مِنَ الرُّمَاةِ الْمَذْكُورِينَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَمَاتَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ خَمْسٍ وَسِتِّينَ سَنَةً وَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ وَكَانَ تَاجِرًا يَبِيعُ الطَّعَامَ وَكَانَ حَسَنَ الْجِسْمِ خَفِيفَ اللِّحْيَةِ أَحْنَى إِلَى الْقِصَرِ مَا هُوَ شَثْنُ الْأَصَابِعِ»

✧ "Hatib b. Abi Balta'ah, whose kunyah is Abu Muhammad, is said to be from Lakhm, then one of Banu Rashidah. He witnessed Badr, the Trench, and all the battles with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him to al-Muqawqis, the ruler of Alexandria. He was among the mentioned archers from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He died in Madinah at the age of sixty-five, and 'Uthman b. 'Affan prayed over him. He was a merchant who sold food, had a good body, a light beard, inclined towards shortness, and was not rough-fingered."
