حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بَالَوَيْهِ ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثَنَا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ قَالَ «اسْمُ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ وَالِدُ الْعَلَاءِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَتَّابِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ عُوَيْفِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ وَكَانَ حَلِيفَ حَرْبِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ وَإِنَّمَا قِيلَ لَهُ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ
لِأَنَّهُ أَتَى مِنْ حَضْرَمَوْتَ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اسْتَعْمَلَهُ عَلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ ثُمَّ إِنَّ عُمَرَ اسْتَعْمَلَهُ عَلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَتُوُفِّيَ بِهَا فَاسْتَعْمَلَ مَكَانَهُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ الدَّوْسِيَّ وَإِنَّمَا تُوُفِّيَ الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ بِالْبَحْرَيْنِ سَنَةَ إِحْدَى وَعِشْرِينَ»
Translation

✧ Because he came from Hadramawt, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had appointed him over al-Bahrayn. Then Umar appointed him over al-Bahrayn, and he died there, so he appointed in his place Abu Hurayra al-Dawsi. Indeed, al-Ala b. al-Hadhrami died in al-Bahrayn in the year twenty-one."
