✧ And Usayd b. al-Hudayr b. Simak was given the kunya Abu Yahya, and it is said Abu al-Husayn, and it is said Abu Bahr. Usayd was a nobleman among his people in the Jahiliyya and in Islam, counted among their sages and men of opinion. He was one of the scribes, and his father al-Hudayr the scribe had been the same before him. He was the chief of the Aws on the day of Bu'ath, and Hudayr was killed that day. Usayd b. Hudayr was one of the seventy of the Ansar who pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the night of al-'Aqaba, according to a narration that includes all of them, and one of the twelve nuqaba'. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ established brotherhood between Usayd b. Hudayr and Zayd b. Haritha. Usayd did not attend Badr; he and others of the senior Companions among the nuqaba' and others stayed behind from Badr because they did not think that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would meet war or fighting. Usayd attended Uhud and was wounded that day with seven wounds, and he remained steadfast with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when the people were routed. He attended al-Khandaq and all the battles with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Al-Dhahabi omitted this from al-Talkhis due to its weakness.
