✧ Al-Harith b. Hisham departed from Makkah, and the people of Makkah grieved deeply. Not one remained but went out to bid him farewell, until when he was at the upper part of al-Batha or wherever he chose, he stopped, and the people stopped around him weeping. When he saw the people's grief, he said: 'O people, I did not depart out of preference for myself over you or choosing one land over your land. But this affair has come to pass, and men of Quraysh went out in it. By Allah, they were not of its elders or its noble houses. By Allah, even if the mountains of Makkah were gold and we spent them in the cause of Allah, we would not catch up with one day of their days. By Allah, if they have preceded us in this world, let us strive to share with them in the Hereafter. Let a man who goes out as a warrior fear Allah.' So he went out as a warrior to Syria and was struck down as a martyr. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
