✧ Mu'adh b. Jabal stood among the army under his command when the plague struck and said: "O people, this is a mercy from your Lord, the supplication of your Prophet, and the death of the righteous before you." Then Mu'adh said while delivering a sermon: "O Allah, grant the family of Mu'adh their fullest share of this mercy." While he was so, someone came and said: "Your son 'Abd al-Rahman has been stricken." When 'Abd al-Rahman saw his father Mu'adh, he said: "O father, {The truth is from your Lord, so do not be among the doubters} [al-Baqarah 147]." Mu'adh said: {You will find me, if Allah wills, among the patient} [al-Saffat 102]. Then from one Friday to the next, the entire family of Mu'adh died, and he was the last of them.
