أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ الْغِفَارِيُّ بِمَرْوَ ثنا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى الْحَافِظُ ثنا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ثنا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ

لَمَّا حَضَرَ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ الْمَوْتُ قِيلَ لَهُ أَوْصِنَا يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ أَجْلِسُونِي فَإِنَّ الْعِلْمَ وَالْإِيمَانَ مَكَانَهُمَا مَنَ ابْتَغَاهُمَا وَجَدَهُمَا يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَالْتَمِسُوا الْعِلْمَ عِنْدَ أَرْبَعَةٍ عِنْدَ عُوَيْمِرٍ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ وَعِنْدَ سَلْمَانَ الْفَارِسِيِّ وَعِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَعِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَّامٍ الَّذِي كَانَ يَهُودِيًّا فَأَسْلَمَ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «أَنَّهُ عَاشِرُ عَشْرَةٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ» صحيح

✧ When death came to Mu'adh b. Jabal, it was said to him: "Advise us, O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman." He said: "Sit me up, for knowledge and faith are in their place; whoever seeks them will find them." He said that three times. "Seek knowledge from four: from 'Uwaymir, Abu al-Darda', from Salman al-Farisi, from 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud, and from 'Abdullah b. Salam, who was a Jew and then embraced Islam, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say that he is the tenth of ten in Paradise."
