أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ثنا أَبُو عُلَاثَةَ ثنا أَبِي ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اسْتَخْلَفَ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ عَلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ حِينَ خَرَجَ إِلَى حُنَيْنٍ وَأَمَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُعَلِّمَ النَّاسَ الْقُرْآنَ وَأَنْ يُفَقِّهَهُمْ فِي الدِّينِ ثُمَّ صَدَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَامِدًا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ وَخَلَّفَ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ عَلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had appointed Mu'adh b. Jabal over the people of Makkah when he went out to Hunayn, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded him to teach the people the Qur'an and to give them understanding in the religion. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ departed, heading to Madinah, and left Mu'adh b. Jabal over the people of Makkah.
