✧ Al-Aqib and al-Sayyid, the two leaders of Najran, came to the Prophet ﷺ intending to invoke a mutual curse with him. One of them said to his companion, "Do not do it, for by Allah, if he is a prophet and curses us, we will never prosper, nor will our descendants after us." So they said, "Rather, we will give you what you asked, and send with us a man who is truly trustworthy." He said: The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stretched their necks for it. He said, "Arise, O Abu Ubaidah b. al-Jarrah." When he turned away, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is the trustworthy one of this nation." The two Shaykhs agreed on recording this hadith in abbreviated form in the two Sahihs from the hadith of al-Thawri and Shu'bah, from Abu Ishaq, from Silah b. Zufar, from Hudhayfah. Israel differed from them, saying it is from Silah b. Zufar, from Abdullah, and he narrated the hadith more completely than what al-Thawri and Shu'bah have. So I recorded it because it is according to their conditions. Sahih according to the conditions of al-Bukhari and Muslim.

يرويه إسرائيل عن أبي إسحاق عن صلة عن ابن مسعود وتابعه الثوري ورواه شعبة عن أبي إسحاق عن صلة عن حذيفة ويشبه أن يكون الصحيح حديث ابن مسعود
machine translationIsrāʾīl narrates it from Abū Isḥāq, from Ṣilah, from Ibn Masʿūd, and al-Thawrī corroborated him. Shuʿbah narrated it from Abū Isḥāq, from Ṣilah, from Ḥudhayfah. It seems that the sound (ṣaḥīḥ) report is the ḥadīth of Ibn Masʿūd.

machine translationShuʿbah narrated it from Abū Isḥāq, from Ṣilah, from Ḥudhayfah. Muslim also recorded it for al-Thawrī from Abū Isḥāq in the same way. Isrāʾīl differed from the two of them, narrating it from Abū Isḥāq, from Ṣilah, from ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd, but the statement of Isrāʾīl is not established.
