✧ A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a black slave girl and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I owe a believing slave; will this one suffice for me?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Who is your Lord?” She said: “My Lord is Allah.” He said: “What is your religion?” She said: “Islam.” He said: “Who am I?” She said: “You are the Messenger of Allah.” He said: “Do you pray the five prayers and affirm what I have brought from Allah?” She said: “Yes.” So he struck her on the back and said: “Free her.” And ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUtbah b. Masʿūd met the Prophet ﷺ and heard from him. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.

machine translationAbū Maʿdān narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl narrated it from Abū Maʿdān, from ʿAwn b. ʿAbdillāh, from his father, from his grandfather. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Mushir differed from him and narrated it from Abū Maʿdān, from ʿAwn b. Abī Juḥayfah, from his father. The sound (ṣaḥīḥ) one is the ḥadīth of Abū ʿĀṣim. Abū Maʿdān's name is ʿAbdullāh b. Maʿdān, a Kūfan, who is acceptable (lā baʾsa bih).
