✧ Abu Sufyan b. al-Harith b. Abd al-Muttalib b. Hashim, and he was the milk-brother of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his paternal cousin. Halimah nursed him for some days, and he used to be close to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. But when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sent, he became hostile to him, satirized him, and satirized his companions, and he remained for twenty years opposed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, never absent from any place where Quraysh set out to fight the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then when the departure of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to Makkah in the year of the conquest was mentioned, Allah ﷻ cast Islam into his heart, and he met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before he reached al-Abwa, and he and his son Ja'far embraced Islam. He went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and witnessed the conquest of Makkah and Hunayn. Abu Sufyan said: When we met the enemy at Hunayn, I dismounted from my horse with a drawn sword in my hand, and Allah knows that I intended death in his defense while he was looking at me. Al-Abbas said: O Messenger of Allah, this is your brother and your cousin Abu Sufyan b. al-Harith, so be pleased with him. He said: 'I have done so; may Allah forgive him every enmity with which he opposed me.' Then he turned to me and said: 'My brother, by my life.' So I kissed his foot in the stirrup. They said: Abu Sufyan b. al-Harith died in Madinah after his brother Nawfal b. al-Harith by four months less thirteen nights. It is said he died in the year 20, and Umar b. al-Khattab prayed over him, and he was buried in the house of Aqil b. Abi Talib in al-Baqi'. He is the one who dug his own grave three days before he died. 'I have mentioned the Islam of Abu Sufyan at the conquest of Makkah previously.' Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
