✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: “Ransom yourself, O Nawfal.” He said: “I have nothing with which to ransom myself, O Messenger of Allah.” He said: “Ransom yourself with your spears that are in Juddah.” He said: “By Allah, no one knew that I had spears in Juddah besides Allah and myself. I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah.” So he ransomed himself with them, and they were a thousand spears. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ established brotherhood between Nawfal and al-Abbas b. Abd al-Muttalib; before that they had been partners in the Jahiliyyah, sharing their wealth and loving each other. Nawfal witnessed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the conquest of Makkah, Hunayn, and al-Ta'if, and he stood firm on the day of Hunayn with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “It is as if I am looking at your spears being broken in the backs of the polytheists.”
