Translation

✧ While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting and Asma' bt. 'Umays was near him, he returned the greeting and then said, “O Asma', this is Ja'far b. Abi Talib with Jibril, Mika'il, and Israfil. They greeted us, so return the greeting to them.” He had already informed me that he met the polytheists on such-and-such a day, three or four days before his passing before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ [perhaps meaning: before the news reached him]. He said: I met the polytheists, and I was struck in my body from my front with seventy-three wounds, between arrow shots, spear thrusts, and sword blows. Then I took the banner with my right hand, and it was cut off. Then I took it with my left hand, and it was cut off. So Allah compensated me for my hands with two wings with which I fly with Jibril and Mika'il. I descend from Paradise wherever I wish and eat of its fruits whatever I wish. Asma' said, “Congratulations to Ja'far for the good that Allah has granted him, but I fear that people will not believe it. So ascend the minbar and inform them.” He ascended the minbar, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said, “O people, indeed Ja'far is with Jibril and Mika'il, and he has two wings with which Allah compensated him for his hands. He greeted me.” Then he informed them of how his affair was when he met the polytheists. And it became clear to the people after the day on which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed them that Ja'far had met them; therefore he was named al-Tayyar in Paradise. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
