✧ The virtues of Yemen bin Jabir, the father of Hudhaifah bin Yemen, and he is one of those who witnessed the Battle of Uhud.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جُمَيعٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ وَاثِلَةَ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ مَا مَنَعَنَا

أَنْ نَشْهَدَ بَدْرًا إِلَّا أَنِّي وَأَبِي أَقْبَلْنَا نُرِيدُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَخَذَتْنَا كُفَّارُ قُرَيْشٍ فَقَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ تُرِيدُونَ مُحَمَّدًا فَقُلْنَا مَا نُرِيدُهُ إِنَّمَا نُرِيدُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَخَذُوا عَلَيْنَا عَهْدَ اللَّهِ وَمِيثَاقَهُ لَتَصِيرُونَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ وَلَا تُقَاتِلُوا مَعَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ فَلَمَّا جَاوَزْنَاهُمْ أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرْنَا لَهُ مَا قَالُوا وَمَا قُلْنَا لَهُمْ فَمَا تَرَى؟ فَقَالَ «نَسْتَعِينُ اللَّهَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَنَفِي بِعَهْدِهِمْ» فَانْطَلَقْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَذَاكَ الَّذِي مَنَعَنَا أَنْ نَشْهَدَ بَدْرًا

✧ We were prevented from witnessing Badr except that my father and I had set out wanting to reach the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but the disbelievers of Quraysh intercepted us and said: 'You are seeking Muhammad.' We said: 'We do not seek him; we only want to go to Madinah.' So they took from us a covenant by Allah and a pledge that we would go to Madinah and not fight alongside Muhammad ﷺ. When we passed them, we came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned to him what they said and what we said to them. He said: 'We will seek Allah's help against them and keep our covenant with them.' So we went on to Madinah, and that is what prevented us from witnessing Badr.
