أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ جَعْدَةَ بْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قُلْتُ لِعَلِيٍّ يَا خَالُ قَتَلْتَ عُثْمَانَ؟ قَالَ «لَا وَاللَّهِ مَا قَتَلْتُهُ وَلَا أَمَرْتُ بِهِ وَلَكِنِّي غُلِبْتُ» جَعْدَةُ بْنُ هُبَيْرَةَ تُوُفِّيَ بَعْدَ وَفَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَإِنَّمَا اشْتَبَهَ عَلِيٌّ بِوَفَاةِ أَبِيهِ هُبَيْرَةِ بْنِ أَبِي هُبَيْرَةِ

✧ I said to Ali, "O maternal uncle, did you kill Uthman?" He said, "No, by Allah, I did not kill him, nor did I order it, but I was overpowered." Ja'dah b. Hubayrah died after the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Ali confused it with the death of his father Hubayrah b. Abi Hubayrah.
