حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو قُتَيْبَةَ سَالِمُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْآدَمِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا عَمِّي أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ الدَّهَّانُ ثنا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ حَصِيرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي صَادِقٍ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ نَاجِدٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ
دَعَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «يَا عَلِيُّ إِنَّ فِيكَ مِنْ عِيسَى عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ مَثَلًا أَبْغَضَتْهُ الْيَهُودُ حَتَّى بَهَتُوا أُمَّهُ وَأَحَبَّتْهُ النَّصَارَى حَتَّى أَنْزَلُوهُ بِالْمَنْزِلَةِ الَّتِي لَيْسَ بِهَا» قَالَ وَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ «أَلَا وَأَنَّهُ يَهْلِكُ فِي مُحِبٍّ مُطْرِي يُفَرِّطُنِي بِمَا لَيْسَ فِي وَمُبْغِضٌ مُفْتَرٍ يَحْمِلُهُ شَنَآنِي عَلَى أَنْ يَبْهَتَنِي أَلَا وَأَنِّي لَسْتُ بِنَبِيٍّ وَلَا يُوحَى إِلَيَّ وَلَكِنِّي أَعْمَلُ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ وَسُنَّةِ نَبِيِّهِ ﷺ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ فَمَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِهِ مِنْ طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى فَحَقَّ عَلَيْكُمْ طَاعَتِي فِيمَا أَحْبَبْتُمْ أَوْ كَرِهْتُمْ وَمَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِمَعْصِيَةٍ أَنَا وَغَيْرِي فَلَا طَاعَةَ لِأَحَدٍ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ ﷻ إِنَّمَا الطَّاعَةُ فِي الْمَعْرُوفِ» «صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» الحكم بن عبد الملك وهاه ابن معين

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ called me and said, «O Ali, in you there is a likeness of Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him): the Jews hated him until they slandered his mother, and the Christians loved him until they placed him in a station that was not his.» He said, and Ali said, «Indeed, there will perish concerning me two [types]: a loving exaggerator who attributes to me what is not in me, and a hating fabricator whose hatred of me drives him to slander me. Indeed, I am not a prophet, and revelation does not come to me, but I act according to the Book of God and the Sunnah of His Prophet ﷺ as much as I am able. Whatever I command you of obedience to God Almighty, then obedience to me is incumbent upon you, whether you like it or dislike it; and whatever I or others command you of disobedience to God, then there is no obedience to anyone in disobedience to God ﷻ. Obedience is only in what is right.» «The chain is authentic, but they did not record it.» Al-Hakam b. Abdul-Malik: Ibn Ma'in declared him weak.
