فَحَدَّثْنَاهُ أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ ثنا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ثنا مُسْلِمُ الْمُلَائِيُّ عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ سَعْدَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ وَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ إِنَّ عَلِيًّا يَقَعُ فِيكَ إِنَّكَ تَخَلَّفْتَ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ وَاللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لَرَأْيٌ رَأَيْتُهُ وَأَخْطَأَ رَأْيِي إِنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أُعْطِيَ ثَلَاثًا لِأَنْ أَكُونَ أُعْطِيتُ إِحْدَاهُنَّ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا لَقَدْ قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ غَدِيرٍ خُمٍّ بَعْدَ حَمْدِ اللَّهِ وَالثَّنَاءِ عَلَيْهِ «هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنِّي أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ؟» قُلْنَا نَعَمْ قَالَ «اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ» وَجِيءَ بِهِ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ وَهُوَ أَرْمَدُ مَا يُبْصِرُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَرْمَدُ فَتَفَلَ فِي عَيْنَيْهِ وَدَعَا لَهُ فَلَمْ يَرْمَدْ حَتَّى قُتِلَ وَفُتِحَ عَلَيْهِ خَيْبَرُ وَأَخْرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَمَّهُ الْعَبَّاسَ وَغَيْرَهُ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْعَبَّاسُ تُخْرِجُنَا وَنَحْنُ عَصَبَتُكَ وَعُمُومَتُكَ وَتُسْكِنُ عَلِيًّا؟ فَقَالَ «مَا أَنَا أَخْرَجْتُكُمْ وَأَسْكَنْتُهُ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ أَخْرَجَكُمْ وَأَسْكَنَهُ» سكت الحاكم عن تصحيحه

✧ I heard Sa'd ibn Mālik when a man said to him, 'Indeed 'Alī criticizes you because you stayed behind from him.' Sa'd said, 'By Allah, it was an opinion I held, and my opinion was mistaken. 'Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib was given three things; if I had been given one of them, it would be more beloved to me than the world and all it contains. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him on the day of Ghadīr Khumm, after praising Allah and extolling Him: "Do you know that I am closer to the believers than their own selves?" We said, "Yes." He said, "O Allah, whoever I am his mawlā, then 'Alī is his mawlā. Befriend whoever befriends him and be hostile to whoever is hostile to him." And he was brought on the day of Khaybar while he was suffering from ophthalmia and could hardly see. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have ophthalmia." So he spat in his eyes and supplicated for him, and he did not suffer from ophthalmia until he was killed, and Khaybar was conquered at his hands. And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ expelled his uncle al-'Abbās and others from the mosque, so al-'Abbās said to him, "You expel us while we are your close relatives and uncles, and you let 'Alī live in it?" He said, "It is not I who expelled you and settled him, but Allah expelled you and settled him."' Al-Ḥākim remained silent about its authentication.
