✧ Mu'awiya said to Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas: What prevents you from reviling the son of Abi Talib? He said: I do not revile him as long as I remember three things that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, for one of them would be dearer to me than red camels. Mu'awiya said to him: What are they, O Abu Ishaq? He said: I do not revile him as long as I remember when the revelation descended upon him, and he took Ali, his two sons, and Fatima, and brought them under his garment, then said: "My Lord, these are the people of my household." And I do not revile him as long as I remember when he left him behind in the campaign of Tabuk, which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ undertook. Ali said to him: You have left me with the children and women. He said: "Are you not pleased to be to me as Harun was to Musa, except that there is no prophethood after me?" And I do not revile him as long as I remember the day of Khaybar. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I will surely give this banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah will grant victory through his hands." We stretched our necks toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: "Where is Ali?" They said: He has sore eyes. He said: "Call him." They called him, and he spat in his face, then gave him the banner, and Allah granted victory through him. He said: By Allah, Mu'awiya did not mention him with a single letter until he left Madinah.
