✧ that Umm Habiba bt. Abi Sufyan, the wife of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, sent a messenger to Abdullah b. Abi Rabi'a, the brother of Ayyash b. Abi Rabi'a, informing him of the killing of Uthman, and she sent to him his shirt in which he was killed and his garments stained with his blood. When the messenger reached him, he went out to the people, ascended the minbar, informed them of his killing, spread his shirt on the minbar, wept, and the people wept with him, and he began to recite: [al-tawil] 'A matter came to me in which there is grief for the people, and in it long weeping for the eyes; in it is the enjoyment of life with humiliation, and in it a firm cutting off of noses. The calamity of the Commander of the Faithful, and for these the mountain peaks would shift. A band in Madinah fell upon him; two parties among them: a killer and a deserter. I shall weep for Abu Amr with every Indian sword and with white ones that have a ringing among the armored. And no sleep until the people are imprisoned by the spears, and the rancor of the misguided people is healed. I am not staying as long as I live in a town where I drag a hem while you are slain.'" He said: So he went out with those with him, and when he drew near Makkah he fell from his mount and died. Al-Dhahabi omitted it from the Talkhis.
