✧ From Mina in the last Hajj, he made his camel kneel at al-Batha, then he gathered a heap of sand at al-Batha, then threw over it a piece of his cloak, then lay down on his back and stretched his hands toward the sky and said, 'O Allah, my age has advanced, my strength has weakened, and my flock has spread. So take me to You without being negligent or wasteful.' Then he arrived in Dhul-Hijjah and addressed the people, saying, 'O people, I have established for you the sunnahs and ordained for you the obligations, and I have left you upon the clear path,' and he struck one hand upon the other, 'unless you turn the people right and left.' Dhul-Hijjah had not ended before Umar was killed. And I heard Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib say, 'Abu Lu'lu'a, who killed Umar, stabbed twelve men along with Umar: six of them died and six recovered. He had a knife with two ends, and he stabbed himself with it and killed himself.'
