✧ Abu Bakr died on Tuesday night, eight nights remaining of Jumada al-Ula in the year thirteen. He was then sixty-three years old. His illness lasted fifteen days. The cause of his illness was that he bathed on a cold day and developed a fever, so for fifteen nights he did not go out for prayer. Umar led the people in prayer while he was in the house that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had allotted to him, facing Uthman's house today. He instructed that his wife Asma' bt. Umays wash him. She became weak, so she sought help from Abd al-Rahman. He was shrouded in two garments, one of which was washed — and it is said in three garments. He was carried on the bier of the Prophet ﷺ, which was the bier of A'ishah upon which she used to sleep. Abu Bakr was carried on it, and Umar prayed over him in the mosque between the grave and the pulpit. He was buried at night in the room with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and his head was placed between the shoulders of the Prophet ﷺ. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
