✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ marched to Hunayn after completing the conquest of Makkah, Malik b. 'Awf al-Nasri gathered from Banu Nasr, and Jusham, and from Sa'd b. Bakr, and groups from Banu Hilal, and people from Banu 'Amr b. 'Asim b. 'Awf b. 'Amir, and the confederates from Thaqif and Banu Malik joined with them. Then he marched with them against the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, accompanied by wealth, women, and children. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard of them, he sent 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Hadrad al-Aslami, saying, “Go and infiltrate the people so that you may learn for us something of their situation.” So he entered and stayed among them for a day or two, then returned and reported the news to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to 'Umar b. al-Khattab, “Do you not hear what Ibn Abi Hadrad says?” 'Umar said, “Ibn Abi Hadrad has lied.” Ibn Abi Hadrad said, “If you accuse me of lying, then you have often accused one better than me of lying.” 'Umar said, “O Messenger of Allah, do you not hear what Ibn Abi Hadrad says?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “You were astray, O 'Umar, and Allah guided you.” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to Safwan b. Umayya and asked him for one hundred coats of mail and whatever equipment was needed for them. He said, “By force, O Muhammad?” He said, “Rather as a guaranteed loan, until we return them to you.” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out marching. [Sahih al-isnad, but they did not include it.] Sahih.
