✧ We returned with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Khaybar to Wadi al-Qura, and with him was a servant of his whom Rifa'a b. Zayd al-Hizami had gifted to him. While he was setting down the saddle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the setting of the sun, a stray arrow came to him and killed him—the arrow whose shooter is unknown. We said, 'Congratulations to him for Paradise.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'No, by the One in Whose hand is Muhammad's soul, his cloak is now burning on him in the Fire; he stole it from the spoils of the Muslims on the day of Khaybar.' A man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in alarm when he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say that, and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I took two shoe straps for a pair of shoes of mine.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The like of it will be cut for you in the Fire.'
