✧ Abu Bakr al-Siddiq: "When the people were routed from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Uhud, I was the first to return to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I caught sight of him from afar, and there was a man who had embraced me from behind like a bird, intending to reach the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and it was Abu Ubaydah b. al-Jarrah. And there was a man lifting him up once and setting him down another time. I said, 'Since I was not the one with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then let it be Talhah—that would be me.' I passed on, and we reached him, and there was Talhah lifting him up once and setting him down another time. Talhah had sixty-six wounds, one of which had cut his median vein. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had been struck on his cheeks, and two rings of the helmet had stuck into his cheeks. When Abu Ubaydah saw what was on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he adjured me by Allah to let him get to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He pulled out one of them with his front tooth, and it came out and his front tooth fell out. Then he looked at the other one and adjured me by Allah to let him get to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he seized it with his other front tooth and pulled it, and it came out and his front tooth fell out. Thus Abu Ubaydah became broken-toothed."
