أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ثنا حَامِدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَامِدٍ الْمُقْرِئُ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ثنا طَلْحَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
«لَمَّا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَخْلُقَ الْخَلْقَ أَرْسَلَ الرِّيحَ فَتَسَحَّبَتِ الْمَاءَ حَتَّى أَبْدَتْ عَنْ حَشَفَةٍ وَهِيَ الَّتِي تَحْتَ الْكَعْبَةِ ثُمَّ مَدَّ الْأَرْضَ حَتَّى بَلَغَتْ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الطُّوَلِ وَالْعَرْضِ» قَالَ وَكَانَتْ هَكَذَا تَمْتَدُّ وَأَرَانِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ بِيَدِهِ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا قَالَ «فَجَعَلَ اللَّهُ الْجِبَالَ رَوَاسِيَ أَوْتَادًا» فَكَانَ أَبُو قُبَيْسٍ مِنْ أَوَّلِ جَبَلٍ وُضِعَ فِي الْأَرْضِ
Translation

✧ “When Allah wanted to create the creation, He sent the wind, and it drew the water until it exposed a projection, which is beneath the Kaʿbah. Then He spread out the earth until it reached whatever length and breadth Allah willed.” He said: It extended like this—and Ibn ʿAbbās showed me with his hand, like this and like this—he said: “Then Allah made the mountains as firm anchors and pegs.” Abu Qubays was among the first mountains placed on the earth.
