✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at al-Ḥudaybiyyah at the base of the tree that Allah, Exalted is He, mentioned in the Qurʾān. A branch of that tree was over the back of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I raised it from his back, while ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib and Suhayl b. ʿAmr were sitting before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to ʿAlī, “Write.” Then he mentioned lines from the ḥadīth that are transmitted in the two books, from the mention of Suhayl b. ʿAmr. ʿAbd Allāh b. Mughaffal said: While we were thus, thirty young men bearing arms came out against us and charged at our faces. The Prophet ﷺ supplicated against them, and Allah took away their sight. We rose to them and seized them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, “Have you come under a covenant with anyone, or has anyone granted you protection?” They said, “O Allah, no.” So he released them. Then Allah, Exalted is He, sent down: “And it is He who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them in the hollow of Makkah, after He had given you victory over them—and Allah is ever Seeing of what you do” [al-Fatḥ: 24].
