أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي نَصْرٍ الدَّارَبُرْدِيُّ وَأَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَلِيمِيُّ بِمَرْوَ قَالَا أَنْبَأَ أَبُو الْمُوَجِّهِ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدَانُ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ
عَنْ أُمِّ الْعَلَاءِ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةِ وَقَدْ كَانَتْ بَايَعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ طَارَ لَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ فِي السُّكْنَى حِينَ أَقْرَعَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ عَلَى سُكْنَى الْمُهَاجِرِينَ قَالَتْ فَاشْتَكَى فَمَرَّضْنَاهُ حَتَّى تُوُفِّيَ حَتَّى جَعَلْنَاهُ فِي أَثْوَابِهِ قَالَتْ فَدَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ رَحِمَكَ اللَّهُ أَبَا السَّائِبِ فَشَهَادَتِي أَنْ قَدْ أَكْرَمَكَ اللَّهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «وَمَا يُدْرِيكِ؟» قَالَتْ لَا أَدْرِي وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ «أَمَّا هُوَ فَقَدْ جَاءَهُ الْيَقِينُ وَإِنِّي لَأَرْجُو لَهُ الْخَيْرَ مِنَ اللَّهِ» ثُمَّ تَلَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ {قُلْ مَا كُنْتُ بِدَعًا مِنَ الرُّسُلِ وَمَا أَدْرِي مَا يُفْعَلُ بِي وَلَا بِكُمْ} [الأحقاف 9] قَالَتْ أُمُّ الْعَلَاءِ وَاللَّهِ لَا أُزَكِّي أَحَدًا بَعْدَهُ أَبَدًا قَالَتْ أُمُّ الْعَلَاءِ وَرَأَيْتُ لِعُثْمَانَ فِي النَّوْمِ عَيْنًا تَجْرِي لَهُ فَجِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ «ذَاكَ عَمَلُهُ يَجْرِي لَهُ»

✧ From Umm al-ʿAlāʾ al-Anṣāriyyah, who had given allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, she said: ʿUthmān b. Maẓʿūn was allotted to us for lodging when the Anṣār drew lots for lodging the Emigrants. She said: He fell ill, and we nursed him until he passed away, and we wrapped him in his garments. She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered, and I said, “May Allah have mercy on you, Abū al-Sāʾib. My testimony is that Allah has honored you.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “And what makes you know that?” She said, “By Allah, I do not know, O Messenger of Allah.” He said, “As for him, certainty has come to him, and I hope for good for him from Allah.” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited: “Say, ‘I am not the first of the messengers, and I do not know what will be done with me or with you’” [al-Aḥqāf: 9]. Umm al-ʿAlāʾ said: By Allah, I will never vouch for anyone after him. Umm al-ʿAlāʾ said: I saw a spring flowing for ʿUthmān in a dream, so I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned that. He said, “That is his deeds flowing for him.”
