أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ ثنا أَبُو حَاتِمٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ سِنَانٍ الرَّهَاوِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي جَدِّي سِنَانُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ عَلِيٍّ حِينَ تَوَجَّهَ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ وَجَرِيرُ بْنُ سَهْمٍ التَّيْمِيُّ أَمَامَهُ يَقُولُ [البحر الرجز] يَا فَرَسِي سِيرِي وَأُمِّي الشَّامَا وَاقْطَعِي الْأَحْقَافَ وَالْأَعْلَامَا وَقَاتِلِي مَنْ خَالَفَ الْإِمَامَا لِأَنِّي لَأَرْجُو إِنْ لَقِينَا الْعَامَا جَمْعَ بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ الطِّغَامَا أَنْ نَقْتُلَ الْقَاضِي وَالْهُمَامَا وَأَنْ نُزِيلَ مِنْ رِجَالٍ هَامَا قَالَ فَلَمَّا وَصَلْنَا إِلَى الْمَدَائِنِ قَالَ

جَرِيرٌ [البحر الكامل] عَفَتِ الرِّيَاحُ عَلَى رُسُومِ دِيَارِهِمْ فَكَأَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا عَلَى مِيعَادِ قَالَ فَقَالَ لِي عَلِيٌّ كَيْفَ قُلْتَ يَا أَخَا بَنِي تَمِيمٍ؟ قَالَ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ الْبَيْتَ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ أَلَا قُلْتَ {كَمْ تَرَكُوا مِنْ جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا فِيهَا فَاكِهِينَ كَذَلِكَ وَأَوْرَثْنَاهَا قَوْمًا آخَرِينَ} [الدخان 26] ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيْ أَخِي هَؤُلَاءِ كَانُوا وَارِثِينَ فَأَصْبَحُوا مَوْرُوثِينَ إِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ كَفَرُوا النِّعَمِ فَحَلَّتْ بِهِمُ النِّقَمُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِيَّاكُمْ وَكُفْرَ النِّعَمِ فَتَحِلَّ بِكُمُ النِّقَمُ» قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ قُلْتُ لِمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ سِنَانٍ جَدُّكَ سِنَانٌ كَانَ كَبِيرَ السِّنِّ أَدْرَكَ عَلِيًّا؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ شَهِدَ مَعَهُ الْمَشَاهِدَ»

✧ Jarir [Al-Bahr Al-Kamil] recited: "The winds effaced the traces of their abodes, as if they had been on an appointed time." 'Ali said to me: "How did you say, O brother of Banu Tamim?" The man repeated the verse to him. 'Ali said: "Why did you not say: 'How many gardens and springs did they leave behind, and crops and noble sites, and comforts wherein they used to delight? Thus it was. And We made another people inherit them' [Al-Dukhan: 26]. Then he said: 'O my brother, these people were inheritors, then they became inherited. Indeed they disbelieved in the blessings, so the calamities befell them.' Then he said: 'Beware of disbelieving in blessings, lest calamities befall you.'" Abu Hatim said: I said to Muhammad b. Yazid b. Sinan: "Your grandfather Sinan was very old and met 'Ali?" He said: "Yes, he witnessed the battles with him."
