✧ When Musa came to his people, he commanded them to give zakah. Qarun gathered them and said: 'He has brought you prayer and other things, and you have borne them. Are you willing to give him your wealth?' They said: 'We cannot bear to give him our wealth. What do you think?' He said: 'I think I should send for the prostitute of the Children of Israel and send her to him so that she will accuse him of wanting her for himself.' Musa then supplicated against them, and Allah commanded the earth to obey him. Musa said to the earth: 'Seize them.' It seized them up to their ankles, and they began saying: 'O Musa, O Musa.' Then he said to the earth: 'Seize them.' It seized them up to their knees, and they began saying: 'O Musa, O Musa.' Then he said to the earth: 'Seize them.' It seized them up to their necks, and they began saying: 'O Musa, O Musa.' Then he said to the earth: 'Seize them.' It seized them and swallowed them. Allah then revealed to Musa: 'O Musa, My servants asked you and pleaded with you, but you did not answer them. By My might, if they had called upon Me, I would have answered them.' Ibn 'Abbas said: That is the statement of Allah, may He be glorified and exalted: {So We caused the earth to swallow him and his home} [al-Qasas 81]. He was swallowed down to the lowest earth.
