✧ When Musa hastened to his Lord, al-Samiri went and gathered what he could of the jewelry of the Children of Israel and fashioned it into a calf. Then he threw the handful into its belly, and it became a calf that lowed. Al-Samiri said to them: This is your god and the god of Musa. Harun said to them: O my people, did not your Lord promise you a good promise? When Musa returned to the Children of Israel after al-Samiri had led them astray, he seized his brother by the head. Harun told him what he said, and Musa said to al-Samiri: What is your case? Al-Samiri said: I grasped a handful from the trace of the messenger and threw it, and thus my soul enticed me. He said: Musa went to the calf, placed files on it, and filed it down while it was at the bank of a river. None of those who worshipped the calf drank from that water except that his face turned yellow like gold. They said to Musa: What is our repentance? He said: Let some of you kill others. So they took knives, and a man would kill his father and brother, not caring whom he killed, until seventy thousand of them were killed. Then Allah revealed to Musa: Command them to raise their hands, for I have forgiven those who were killed and accepted the repentance of those who remain.
