✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took me until he brought me to the Kaʿbah. He said to me, “Sit.” So I sat beside the Kaʿbah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ climbed onto my shoulder, then said, “Rise.” I rose, but when he saw my weakness beneath him, he said, “Sit.” So I descended and sat. Then he said, “O ʿAlī, climb onto my shoulder.” So I climbed onto his shoulders. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rose with me. When he rose with me, it seemed to me that if I wished I could touch the horizon of the sky. I climbed above the Kaʿbah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stepped aside. He said to me, “Throw down their greatest idol, the idol of Quraysh.” It was made of brass, fastened with iron pegs to the ground. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, “Work on it,” while he kept saying, “Go on! Go on! {Truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. Indeed falsehood is bound to vanish} [al-Isrāʾ 81].” I kept working on it until I got a firm hold of it. He said, “Hurl it.” I hurled it, and it shattered. I fell from the top of the Kaʿbah. The Prophet ﷺ and I ran off, fearing that someone from Quraysh or others might see us. ʿAlī said: It was never put back up until this hour.
