✧ The two sons of Mulaykah came—they were from the Anṣār—and said, “O Messenger of Allah, our mother was protective of her husband and generous to guests, but she buried a daughter alive in the Jāhiliyyah. Where is our mother?” He said, “Your mother is in the Fire.” They rose, and that was hard on them, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called them back. They returned, and he said, “My mother is with your mother.” A hypocrite among the people said to himself, “This benefits his mother no more than the two sons of Mulaykah benefit their mother, while we tread on his heels.” A young man of the Anṣār—I never saw a man more given to questioning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than he—said, “O Messenger of Allah, I see that your parents are in the Fire.” He said, “I asked my Lord about them, and He did not grant me anything for them. On that day I will stand at the Praiseworthy Station.” The hypocrite said to the young Anṣārī, “Ask him what the Praiseworthy Station is.” He said, “O Messenger of Allah, what is the Praiseworthy Station?” He said, “The day when Allah descends upon His Throne, and it creaks under Him as a camel saddle creaks from the strain, by the space between heaven and earth. You will be brought barefoot, naked, and uncircumcised. The first to be clothed will be Ibrāhīm. Allah ﷻ will say, ‘Clothe My friend in two white garments from the garments of Paradise.’ Then I will be clothed after him. I will stand at the right of Allah ﷻ in a position for which the first and the last will envy me. A river from al-Kawthar will be opened for me to my basin.” He said: The hypocrite said, “I have never heard anything like today. Rarely has a river flowed except in pottery or pebbles. Ask him in what the river flows.” He said, “In a basin of musk and pebbles.” The hypocrite said, “I have never heard anything like today. Rarely has a river flowed except with plants.” He said, “Yes.” He asked, “What are they?” He said, “Rods of gold.” The hypocrite said, “I have never heard anything like today. By Allah, no rod grows except with fruit. Ask him if those rods have fruits.” He said, “Yes: pearls and jewels.” The hypocrite said, “I have never heard anything like today. Ask him about the drink of the basin.” The Anṣārī said, “O Messenger of Allah, what is the drink of the basin?” He said, “Whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever Allah gives a drink from it will never thirst after it, and whoever is deprived of it will never be quenched after it.”
