حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عِيسَى ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْحَرَشِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أَنْبَأَ الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيُّ ثنا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو نَضْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعْدٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي أُسَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ
سَمِعَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ أَنَّ وَفْدَ أَهْلِ مِصْرَ قَدْ أَقْبَلُوا فَاسْتَقْبَلَهُمْ فَلَمَّا سَمِعُوا بِهِ أَقْبَلُوا نَحْوَهُ قَالَ وَكَرِهَ أَنْ يَقْدَمُوا عَلَيْهِ الْمَدِينَةَ قَالَ فَأَتَوْهُ فَقَالُوا لَهُ ادْعُ بِالْمُصْحَفِ وَافْتَتَحِ السَّابِعَةَ وَكَانُوا يُسَمُّونَ سُورَةَ يُونُسَ السَّابِعَةَ فَقَرَأَهَا حَتَّى أَتَى عَلَى هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ {قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ مِنْ رِزْقٍ فَجَعَلْتُمْ مِنْهُ حَرَامًا وَحَلَالًا قُلْ آللَّهُ أَذِنَ لَكُمْ أَمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ تَفْتَرُونَ} [يونس 59] فَقَالُوا لَهُ قِفْ أَرَأَيْتَ مَا حَمَيْتَ مِنَ الْحِمَى آللَّهُ أَذِنَ لَكَ أَمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ تَفْتَرِي؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ امْضِهْ نَزَلَتْ فِي كَذَا وَكَذَا فَأَمَّا الْحِمَى فَإِنَّ عُمَرَ حَمَى الْحِمَى قَبْلِي لِإِبِلِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَلَمَّا وُلِّيتُ وَزَادَتْ إِبِلُ الصَّدَقَةِ فَزِدْتُ فِي الْحِمَى لَمَا زَادَ فِي الصَّدَقَةِ

✧ ‘Uthman b. ‘Affan heard that the delegation of the people of Egypt had set out, so he went out to meet them. When they heard of him they came toward him, and he disliked that they should enter Madinah upon him. They came to him and said to him, “Call for the mushaf and open the seventh,” for they used to call Surah Yunus the seventh. He recited it until he came to this verse: {Say, “Have you considered what Allah has sent down for you of provision, of which you have made some unlawful and some lawful?” Say, “Has Allah permitted you, or do you fabricate against Allah?”} [Yunus: 59]. They said to him, “Stop. Have you considered the protected pasture you have reserved? Has Allah permitted you, or do you fabricate against Allah?” He said, “Continue. It was revealed regarding such-and-such. As for the protected pasture, ‘Umar reserved it before me for the camels of zakah. When I was appointed and the zakah camels increased, I increased the protected pasture in proportion to the increase in zakah.”
