✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ consulted Abu Bakr concerning the captives. He said: 'They are your people and your kin, so release them.' Then he consulted Umar, who said: 'Kill them.' He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ransomed them. Then Allah, may He be glorified, revealed: {It is not for a prophet to have captives until he has made a great slaughter in the land} [Al-Anfal 67] up to His saying {so eat of what you have taken as spoil, lawful and good} [Al-Anfal 69]. He said: The Prophet ﷺ then met Umar and said: 'A calamity almost befell us because of your opposition.'
