حَدَّثَنَا الشَّيْخُ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شَاذَانَ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ ثنا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الرَّقِّيُّ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ قَالَ كَانَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فِي نَفَرٍ فَذَكَرُوا عَلِيًّا فَشَتَمُوهُ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ مَهْلًا
عَنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَإِنَّا أَصَبْنَا دُنْيَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ ﷻ {لَوْلَا كِتَابٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ سَبَقَ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَا أَخَذْتُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ} [الأنفال 68] فَأَرْجُو أَنْ تَكُونَ رَحْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ سَبَقَتْ لَنَا فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ فَوَاللَّهِ إِنَّهُ كَانَ يُبْغِضُكَ وَيُسَمِّيكَ الْأَخْنَسَ فَضَحِكَ سَعْدٌ حَتَّى اسْتَعْلَاهُ الضَّحِكُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ يَجِدُ الْمَرْءُ عَلَى أَخِيهِ فِي الْأَمْرِ يَكُونُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهُ ثُمَّ لَا يَبْلُغُ ذَلِكَ أَمَانَتَهُ وَذَكَرَ كَلِمَةً أُخْرَى

✧ From the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'We acquired worldly gains with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so Allah, may He be glorified, revealed: {Had it not been for a prior decree from Allah, a tremendous punishment would have touched you for what you took} [Al-Anfal 68]. I hope that it was a mercy from Allah that preceded for us.' Then some of them said: 'By Allah, he used to hate you and call you Al-Akhnas.' Sa'd laughed until he was overcome by laughter, then said: 'Does not a man find fault with his brother in a matter between them, yet that does not reach his trustworthiness?' And he mentioned another word.
